7 Week Update

Dear Javelina Jundred Runners,

We are now less than 7 weeks from race day. I am sending out this message with some news and updates that should help you plan for a successful run this November. We have received a great amount of interest in the race this year and have now closed off registration and our wait list. Due to the number of runners wanting in this year, we did increase our limit to accommodate a few more entrants than originally stated on the application.

Full Moon Training Run - This no fee*, no aid, no whining run will be held on Saturday night, October 18th from 7pm to 7am. You will be expected to carry enough food and water to make it around the entire 15.4 mile Pemberton Trail. I will be on hand to answer questions and provide moral support. Meet at the Pemberton Trailhead just before 7pm. *There is a $6/vehicle park entry fee.

Partial Refund Ends October 1st - If for some reason you will not be able to make it to the race this year, please let me know by October 1st if you would still like to receive a 50% refund of your entry fee. We will not be able to offer refunds after this date.

Costume Contest - Our annual costume contest will be back again this year. To be eligible for our best male and best female costume awards, you must wear the outfit for the entire 100 miles! To encourage participation, in addition to unique awards, the winners will each receive a complimentary entry into the 2009 Javelina Jundred. Winners will be selected by the race committee.

Bib Nickname Requests - We will be printing names onto each runner's bib. If you forgot to request a nickname on your application, please let us know if you have a special nickname you would like printed. If not, we will use your full name submitted on the application.

Camping - If you are interested in camping race weekend, there are two options. All camping within the park is on a first come, first serve basis (the park will not be taking any reservations ahead of time). Our park host has assured me that there is always plenty of room in November. If you are interested in camping at Javelina Jeadquarters (the Pemberton Trailhead and our start/finish area), there will be a $12/night fee that will be charged at the park. The camping area near the start line is essentially a designated area of the gravel parking lot. The park just finished a brand new bathroom and shower facility that will be available for use.

The other option for camping is a developed site which is a short drive from the Pemberton Trailhead, but still within the McDowell Mountain park. These sites feature electrical/water hookups, dump station, restrooms, picnic tables, and grills. If you are planning to drive an RV to the race, this would be an ideal area to set up. These spaces are available for $20/night, payable at the park.

Race Packet Pickup - We will have your race packets available Friday night, November 14th from 4pm to 7pm at Javelina Jeadquarters within the park. Packet pickup will resume race morning at 4:30am. There will also be a short pre-race briefing (optional) on Friday night at 5pm coinciding with the pasta dinner.

Volunteers - If you have family or friends that are interested in volunteering at an aid station, helping with registration, or trail sweep, have them email myself - javelinajundred@gmail.com or our volunteer coordinator, Will LaFollette - javelinavolunteercoordinator@gmail.com

A breakdown of our volunteering opportunities may be found here:

See you all in November!
