3 Week Update

Runners,

I want to share some important information with you as we draw closer to race weekend. I will likely send out a couple more emails as we approach race day if there are any updates.

Full Moon Training Run
We had a very successful training run on the Pemberton Trail last weekend. Over forty runners showed up to run one or more laps on the course. Some of you even traveled from out of state! I believe Gary Culver ran the furthest with 4 loops (he began at 7am). Thanks to everyone who attended.

Foot Taping
Kachina Search and Rescue will once again be providing our medical services for the entire weekend. They will be offering foot taping the morning of the race designed to help prevent blisters. There is no need to sign up for this service. They will begin taping at 4:15am on race morning on a first come first serve basis.

Aid Station Beverages
We will be providing the following drinks at all three aid stations:
Water (Obviously)
Gatorade (Lemon-Lime)
Succeed! ULTRA (Orange)
Coca-Cola
Mountain Dew
Ginger Ale
Coffee
Tea
Hot Chocolate
Spiced Cider

Aid Station Foods
We will have a wide assortment of sweet snacks, salty snacks, fruit, soup, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, bean roll ups, grilled cheese, and pumpkin pie, along with several meals throughout the day and night.
Javelina Jeadquarters will have sub-sandwiches at lunchtime on Saturday, Pizza at dinner on Saturday, hot dogs, hamburgers & potato soup throughout the night, and egg burritos & pancakes on Sunday morning.

If you have any special requests for food or drinks, please let me know immediately. I will do my best to fulfill your requests, but please bring your own supplements and specialty foods if you absolutely require them.

Gels
I want to thank Carb BOOM! for providing the race with a number of energy gels. We will have these available at each aid station in limited quantities.

Pain Medication
I will not be stocking the aid stations with any kind of pain medication. It will be up to you as a runner to provide your own and to take them at your own discretion. We will have some S! Caps, antacids, ginger pills, and other common nutritional products available.

Drop Bags & Crews
Remember that crews are only allowed at Javelina Jeadquarters and that no drop bags are allowed at the Coyote Camp aid station due to its remote location. Drop bags for the Jackass Junction Aid Station will be transported there after the start of the race, so be sure to place your bag in the designated area race morning.

Park & Race Rules
We are guests at McDowell Mountain Park and must follow all rules.
Any violation of these rules will be grounds for disqualification from the race.
- All pets must be kept on a leash
- Littering is strictly prohibited (this includes organic waste i.e. banana peels)
- Any type of glass bottle or container is not allowed
- Runners must stay on designated trail at all times
- Runners must be respectful of all volunteers and park staff

Schedule
I want to finish off this email with a schedule of the weekend's events. We will be setting up Javelina Jeadquarters on Friday morning:

Friday, November 14th
4pm - Packet pickup begins at Javelina Jeadquarters.
5pm - Optional pre-race briefing and pasta dinner ($7/person at the door)
7pm - Dinner serving ends

Saturday, November 15th
4:15am - Foot taping begins at the medical ramada with Kachina Search & Rescue
4:30am - Packet pickup and runner check-in resumes at Javelina Jeadquarters.
5:45am - All runners must be checked in at the registration booth race morning
6am - Race begins in the clockwise direction (it will be dark at the start)

Sunday, November 16th
10am - Runners must complete 6 full loops on the Pemberton Trail
12pm - 30 hour cutoff for a 100 mile finish

It is still in the 90's here in the Phoenix area, so hopefully we will have a cool down in the next three weeks! The 10 day forecast shows the highs around eighty degrees. Be prepared for sun exposure regardless of how hot it ends up being.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions leading up to race day. I will be available by email and phone.

Sincerely,

Jamil Coury
Race Director - Javelina Jundred
